Young Parents

Ibstock Young Parents was founded in October 2005 by Dette Thompson and Kim Shillcock. It is run every Thursday from 1:00pm till 3:00pm at Ibstock Youth Centre. For anyone up to 22 years old, men and women.

We do group activities i.e go to the park, Batik work, outings and urban dancing. Every so often we have a creche bus, where the children can go with creche workers so us parents can have the afternoon to ourselves and to finish off any left over work that needs to be finished i.e Development folders, which we add to as the children grow older, with photos of activities and outings so we can look back and see how they have developed. Throughout our time at young parents. Some of us are undertaking a course called "Training the Trainers", where we deliver to professionals information on how young parents feel about the way we are stereotyped.

During our time here we have developed in ourselves by gaining the confidence to support our children. we get alot of advice from the youth workers, and also from the other parents within the group. We have also gained respect from the other parents as we are all in the same position.
