Wreake Valley Duke Of Edinburgh Group

The DofE group has been running at Wreake Valley for a number of years. The programme offers young people aged 14+ the opportunity to work towards their award –this could be at Bronze, Silver or Gold level depending on age and experience. It offers both individual and team challenges and is very rewarding for everyone who takes part. It is an Award which is nationally recognised.

There are 4 sections to the Award – Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Expedition. The youth workers will explain just what can be done in the group and what has to be done independently but certainly the Expedition section will be covered. To find out even more look at the DofE website [ul] www.theaward.org/awardnearyou[/url]

The young people involved meet weekly during term time and are also involved in training days, practice expeditions and assessed expeditions over several weekends.

Young people who have completed their Awards say that they have had great fun and learnt a lot from their experiences on the way.

If you'd like to get invovled, come along to Wreake Valley on a Thursday evening and talk to the youth workers. Recruitment usually takes place between September and December (at the latest) . It would not be possible to join after Christmas.

The group takes place on Thursday evenings 7-9pm in Wreake Valley Sixth Form.

There is money involved – registration fees and also contributions towards the costs of expeditions. This varies at the different levels
