World Without End
Ken Follett
Ken Follett’s World Without End is a novel that you can truly get stuck into, and get lost in a world of your own. It’s a story that revolves around the lives of 4 main characters that are from the 1300’s, it all starts with a killing in the forest that they witness as children, that one day will haunt them for the rest of their lives.
One character shall go against the ways of the church, one shall travel the world, another shall become an evil, corrupt noble man, and the other shall go after her true love.
This is the second time I have read this truly amazing novel with a massive 1111 pages you feel like you know the characters and can empathise with them throughout all the challenges that they go through in their lives. I quickly began to hate one character and was glad of the fate that he met. Follett builds his characters really well and the bonds he creates which binds them alltogether is so strong you can quickly relate to real life.
The attention to detail is massive; Follett’s apparent knowledge of history and society of the time helps readers imagine themselves living the story. The detail goes down to the smells and noise of the normal goings on in the 14th century Kingsbridge town that is lead by the monastery. That only leads to more problems for the characters as the story goes on.
The scenes are well crafted and planned out there is no doubt of Follett’s dedication to the novel which makes for an interesting read which is enjoyable for everyone. There are some sexually explicit moments and some strong language which means if it was made into a film it would be rated a 15 and I would give the book the same rating. Thoroughly enjoyable for anyone who is really into reading, it’s not for the faint hearted as it has 1111 pages and it questions the rights and wrongs of life which really makes you think.
5/5
