Wigston Library is fairly large, modern, and has recently undergone a refurbishment, with it's interior now light and airy. It's central location is ideal, with the entrance on Bull Head Street, and for those of you lucky enough to have a car, parking is at the rear of the building (a couple of which are disable spaces).
The opening times are
Monday 9.30am-8.00pm
Tuesday 9.30am-8.00pm
Wednesday 9.30am-5.30pm
Thursday 9.30am-8.00pm
Friday 9.30am-8.00pm
Saturday 9.30am-5.00pm
So even if you can't get there during the week, at least it's open on Saturday. If you're worried that you can't return items when it's open, no need to panic as it has a letterbox that has a "chute" attached to it!
To borrow books and so on, all you need is a Leicestershire Libraries Card, which you can use at any Library in the County. If you're looking for a book that they don't have, they can sometimes order ones in for you. But what's there for young people...besides books?
Well, there are graphic novels (not to be confused with comics such as the Beano etc!) such as "Eternals", "Rogue Trooper" and "Judge Dredd". And yes, these are free to borrow too! These have covers on, so for the most part, they're in great condition.
There are also 20 computers, with internet connections, that are free to use for up to an hour (maximum use of 8 hours in one week). Obviously you have to sign in to use them, and yes there are firewalls, but given that they are free, they're ideal! There are seperate computers for much younger users too.
There is also homework assistance in the form of signposting to the right resources. The librarians know their stock very well, so if you have a question, then the chances are they'll know of a book that'll help you. Plus there are tables for you to work at, stationery items to borrow, and the ability to have computer print outs free of charge (up to 5 pages).
Of course there are CD's available to. There's nothing more annoying then bying a CD for £15 that's rubbish, so at least here you get to hear what your album of choice sounds like. It only costs £1 to borrow a CD for one week (if it's a double CD, then it'll be £2), and you can take up to 12 out a week. Yes some of you may download music, but there's no substitute for seeing the artwork and listening to the tracks at CD quality as opposed to some below par ripped MP3, sampled at a fairly low level.
You can borrow DVD's too (obviously they do check the age restrictions, so if you're 16, you're not going to be able to take out a film that has an 18 classification). DVD's cost from £1.50 a week, and for the latest releases it costs £3.00. As with CD's, you can only take out 12 DVD's out at a time. Still, if your average film lasts 2 hours...then that's around 24 hours of viewing to get through!
On top of that, they have magazines and newspapers for you to read through!
So what are you waiting for?? Go and have a look for yourself!!
