Workshops

In the morning, members of youth councils ran three workshops. The young people were given the option of attending two of these: ‘hard to reach young people,’ ‘common age of adult hood’ and ‘the media image of young people.’

The media image of young people

This workshop focussed on the youth media image and how to challenge it, this included looking at current headlines regarding the youth. After attending the workshop, delegates should be working with their Youth Council to write to their local newsletters to promote the Youth.

Hard to reach young people

The Hard to Reach workshop aimed to inform Youth Council members about Hard to Reach young people, who they were, why an extra effort must be made to contact them and how to go about doing this. It was brought up that Hard to Reach may soon be changed to 'Need to Reach' and Youth Council members agreed with this change. Whatever the name, however, Youth Council members should aim to reach these groups of young people in all their work, this should include all surveys and events.
