Campaign Tips

Plan your campaign properly

Look at the UKYP website so you know exactly what the UKYP does and what it is. Remember that you have to be the person in your borough and district with the most votes, so plan your campaign to reach other young people in your area.

Always stay safe

Don’t go to places without either direct supervision or someone at least knowing where you are.

Make use of public facilities

Campaign in places where young people often go, such as, youth centres, town centres, shopping centres, schools etc.

Work with different organisations

Businesses and youth groups you are involved with might be able to help you get more publicity and attention.

Use your time efficiently

You will not have long to campaign, so make sure you don’t waste time. Start now.

Be clear

Make sure potential voters understand your commitment and what skills you will bring to the position.

Use good communication skills

Make sure you’re to the point and direct when speaking. Don’t be long-winded or too complicated or you will confuse the people who are going to vote for you. (Remember 'KISS' - Keep It Simple Stupid)

Do NOT be afraid to ask for help

You are not expected to know everything yourself, so don’t be scared to contact experienced young people, friends, parents, teachers and any other people to find the correct answer and get other people engaged!

Act Now

You only have a short time to Campaign so think about what activities will make the biggest impact.

Enjoy yourself!

There’s no point taking part if you’re not going to have fun! Remember that this is a unique experience, and that you could really have the power to make a difference!
