EASTER PGL RESIDENTIAL EXPERIENCE

Seventy Young People from Area South, (Thirty from TECC and Broughton Astley), took part in a fantastic weekend at a PGL Centre Caythorpe Lincolnshire. During the weekend Young People took part in Abseiling, Air Rifle Shooting, Low Ropes, Quading, Raft Building, High Ropes and the Giant Swing. Although the Young People found the food a little disappointing they thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and fancy the South of France for next year trip, or was that the workers idea?

THE SUMMER

Over the last couple of months the Youth Club has been planning for the Summer Activities. These activities will of course involve Sailing as well as various camping and residential experiences into Charnwood and Derbyshire. We are looking at having a couple of days out at Waterworld and possibly Conkers or Warwick Castle.

We are planning a second Area Activity Day at Naseby; this will involve Sailing, Canoeing, Climbing and Archery.

We are also planning Canal Barge Trip on the Northeaster, which will involve either lots of locks or lots of chillin’ out.

Keep a look out during the Summer Hols for Our Sports Team who will be on the park and out Detached Youth Work Team who will be in Leire, Ullesthorpe, Claybrook, and Dunton at some point during the summer.

TOP TEAM GIRLS GROUP

Have recently completed a Baby Sitting Course that involved spending time away with Simulated Babies, (What! I hear you cry!), well cry is the operative word, these sim babies need to be look after like real babies, right down to changing nappies, feeding and taking care as you would with a real baby. The Top Team enjoyed every minute of it and thought it was a worthwhile residential, some even suggested they did a whole weekend next year! That’s if the Youth Workers could survive a whole weekend!

DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD SCHEME

The D of E Group are planning for their first expeditions Bronze Level. Two walking groups are venturing into deepest darkest Charnwood, (twice), in the next six weeks or so, there they must endure walking a fare few miles before camping up at Oaks Campsite and later in the summer Beaumanor Hall. They have to become self sufficient for whole weekend and carry all their kit on their backs and that does not include brining their Mum.

ADVENTURE SERVICE CHALLENGE

Are getting ready for a weekend away at John’s Lee Wood in early July. This will involve the young people in using all their new camping craft skills and navigation skills for a weekend and if they survive this they can spend three days in Derbyshire in late August. As well as a good walk through Wolfcote Dale and Dove Dale they get stay at Gradbach Campsite, Visit Alton Towers and the Heights of Abraham.

SAILING

Has now restated on the Monday evenings. Learn how to sail with top instructors and there are about six spaces left so be quick. The sailing takes place a Naseby Reservoir and is a fantastic environment with lots of wild life.

During the summer there will be an opportunity to take part in a three-day summer school where by the end of the three days you can gain a Royal Yachting Association Qualification.

SPORTS ACTIVITIES

Interested in Sport, well we are now running a Sports Leader Award, as well the Activ8 Club. The Sports Leader Award is designed for Young People age 14+ and is nationally recognised qualification; there is still spaces available if you would like to join.

Activ8 is a club for people who are interested in try different sports, the sessions are fun and non competitive and would suit Young People who enjoy sport but do not necessarily what to get involved in teams.

If you are interested in any of the above activities and clubs there are always room for new members. For more information and to pick up a membership form speak to Colin in the Community Office, (near the Premises Officers Office).
