What sort of things have they done in the past?
Pick ‘n’ Mix 2006
This was the name given to the programme of activities put together after consultation with young people in the Thurmaston Locality. As the name suggests, young people were able to choose the activities in which they wished to be involved. The programme extended over a whole week in August and ran from 10am –3pm each day. Most of the participants chose to come every day, and some of the sessions that were included are mentioned below.
Police Dogs (Richard Bradley Police Dog Handler).
A fascinating session about the role of police dogs, the training and handling and the breeds involved. Richard brought in his Belgian Shepherd Dog (Sam) – a general police dog and also Storm, a puppy in training. The young people loved this session.
Falconry (Simon Tebutt).
Learnt about the life of a falconer, the history of the birds and how they were used in Medieval Times. Talked about the birds’ habitats and how they hunted. Handled birds-some with awesome wingspans.
