The Swordhand Is Singing

“There is a land beyond the forests. A land so beautiful that as you stand at the edge of the trees and gaze across the pastures to the snow-brushed mountains, you know that heaven is surely but a step away. From this land comes a song, and from this song comes a story. A story of murder.”

Marcus Sedgwick has written My Swordhand Is Singing, he has been writing since 1994. I have only read about half of this book, but from what I’ve read, it is a great read, I love the way he describes things, so vividly and goes into depth not wasting a word, it made it enjoyable and is wrote in a “gothic style”, my kind of book!

Other books Marcus Sedgwick has written are:
• The Book of Dead days
• The Dark Flight Down
• The Dark Horse
• The Dead Days Omnibus
• Floodland
• The Foreshadowing
• Witch Hill

The Story is about a Son, Peter and his Father, Tomas, they are woodcutters. Throughout the story there is a lot of tension between them both. They can’t seem to find a place to settle, but now they have come across a place called Chust, this is the longest Tomas and Peter has ever stayed somewhere, they appear to be “outsiders” wherever they go.

A Man called Wilhelm is said to have died recently, however there has been rumours that he is visiting his wife at night. Certain events throughout the story are very unusual, this is what I like about the book, it makes you want to read on and never put the book down, a very gripping novel.
