The Poets

Date: 19th August 2005
Location: The Charlotte
Bands: The Poets, Red cars go faster, Euro's Child.

The Poets last gig in Leicester and they made sure thay they left in style.
Opening band Euro's Child were a modest 3 piece. Playing pop rock with a techno edge, "Henry & Matilda" was a catchy tune amongst an average, obviously local, band set.
Local boys, Red cars go faster, were the supporting band on the night. With an animated front man, who led the way in this bands great set. The drummer played lightning fast adding a euphoric energy to the sound of this six piece. Added to a talented lead guitarist this band is sure to go on to bigger & better things than Leicester's local scene.
RCGF energised the crowd in preparation for the headliners, The Poets. Due to the guitarist Danny English's music scholarship at Brighton University, the band are moving down so they don't have to split. They obviously have a lot of self belief.and after their performance you can see why they think they can make it big.
Think of the streets, add in a jingly guitar sound and an extra twist of indie & you can begin to imagine how this band sound. Their songs are upbeat, with simple lyrics making them easy to sing-a-long to, almost as though you've heard them a hundred times before - yet they never get boring, you don't want the songs to end.
The band were on fine form, front man Dale Atkins gave the crowd a new level of life with his passionate performance, and guitarist Danny English playing was so "mind blowing", that he well deserved the chant of his name at the end.
An awesome performance from a band who will be greatly missed on the Leicester scene. Trip to Brighton anyone?
