The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor

This is the first book in a sci-fi/fantasy trilogy. It has been inspired by the classic children's book Alice in Wonderland but it's very different. If you sometimes feel you're from another world and wish you had magical powers, or you just love action and amazing fight scenes this is defiantly worth a read.

The story is about Alyss Heart heir to the Wonderland Throne. Alyss' parents (the King and Queen)are killed by her evil aunt Redd, Alyss manages to escape but becomes trapped on 19th Century Earth. She struggles to survive on the streets before being adopted and raised as traditional English lady. Alyss accepts her new life on Earth and slowly forgets about Wonderland until she is discovered and taken back. Once in Wonderland she struggles to regain her powers but she must and quickly if she is going to save Wonderland and lead her loyal supporters in a war against the evil Queen Redd.

The author of this book is a film producer and has produced There's Something about Mary and Wicked. It looks very likely that this will become a film as well. It also has a spin off comic called Hatter M and a website with a book trailer www.lookingglasswars.com

This book is really exciting and some of the fights would make excellent Matrix like film scenes. I'm looking forward to the next book being released soon.
