The Cat Mummy - By Jacqueline Wilson
Verity is a young girl who lives with her Dad, Gran and Grandad. Sadly, her mum died on the day she was born. Verity has an old pet cat called Mabel who is on her last steps.
Verity thought of Mabel as a lazy cat who just slept all day and ate when dinner was there. One day, Mabel is missing and Verity didn't realise how much she loves her do-nothing cat Mabel.
The whole family search everywhere but eventually, Verity finds Mabel in her wardrobe in the saddest way possible, curled up in her dressing gown. Verity is deeply upset about the loss of Mabel.
At school, Verity was learning about Ancient Eygptians and how they preserved cats. Verity decides to preserve Mabel, but things didn't go according to plan.
Even though this book is easy to read and is suitable for children 8 years and over, it's a heart-touching story and also funny. I like to read this book now and again and I also like Nick Sharratt's drawings.
