This was done to help build confidence for the debates being held at Vox PoP.

The group also completed a range of team building exercises to build relationships and to help CYCLe reach its full potential.

(UKYP Member, Karishma) said “It was awesome! I got to know everyone and made so many new friends which I wouldn't have if I hadn't gone on this residential.”

Project 515 Update

Last year, CYCLe was given Ł515,000 by Leicestershire County Council to spend on improving young people's services and facilities. While Emily was Chair, a plan was drawn up and agreed to provide funding for a number of youth projects. I hope you understand that this plan was created when we did not know the budget cuts that were coming.

Now, with huge savings needing to be made, CYCLe believes that we must re-think Project 515. We now know that we may need to spend the money on something else that would be better for young people. To that end, CYCLe have voted to freeze all 515 expenditure with immediate effect. We request all spending previously authorised by CYCLe to be withdrawn and returned to the pot until further notice.

CYCLe would like to hold 515 money until the future of youth provisions is clearer. We are likely to review our position by Spring 2011.

We are aware that this decision may not be a welcome one; but I must stress that CYCLe simply could not allow spending on projects without knowing the full picture of the future for the county's young people. In times of cuts, 515 is too big an opportunity to spend on capital projects that may not have sufficient support in the near future.

For any more information, please contact me directly. Please do not try and get funding from County Hall as it will not be allowed.

Tim
CYCLe Chair

CYCLe Leadership Residential

Last weekend CYCLe (County Youth Council Leicestershire) went on a residential to learn more about leadership. Both how to be a good leader and leadership skills. The weekend went very well and everyone enjoyed the weekend although with a fair few people there were some personal challenges, like the high ropes. The weekend taught everyone about leadership and helped to give insight to everyone of how to be a good leader and what leadership is. Everyone also learnt that there are so many different ways in which you are a leader and there are loads of ways that leadership affects people. Everyone who went on this residential overcame personal challenges and everyone who went on the residential enjoyed the weekend.

Bus Reporting System

Young people can now report the behaviour of the bus drivers e.g. smoking and badlanguage. You can also report on the state e.g. keeping bus untiddy as well as badbehaviour of the other pupils because you need a safer journey to and from school. If peopleor the bus driver are doing the wrong thing: tell someone or tell a teacher at school.

If you don't, there could be serious consiquences so find a seat, stay in it until the bus stops at your stop.

You dont want an accident do you?

IF IT'S NOT REPORTED
IT DON'T GET SORTED

by Karl

Young Views (Leicestershire Matters)

More than 100 young people had their say at an event at County Hall.

The teenagers quizzed County Councillors and officers on their key priorities of transport, facilities and crime and safety. They then worked together to try and find solutions. The event was organised by the County Youth Council for Leicestershire (CYCLe) which is made up of members of youth councils from across the County.

The young people also gave their views on why voting at the forthcoming County Council and European Elections is so important.

Mackenzie (18) Hinckley and Bosworth youth council “If there is the mentality that there is no point, then there will be no voting and there will be no democracy. And nothing will be done.”

Alex (17) Harborough Youth Council “I think it is important to vote for your councillor to get in and do what he wants to do”

Beth (16) Charnwood Youth Council “If you choose the wrong person, or don’t even vote at all, you’re not going to get what you want in life.”

Adam (17) Melton Youth Council “If you don’t put your input or view and get your view heard, what is the point of complaining when the council makes mistakes and causes problems?”
