Ptolemy's Gate
By Jonathan Stroud

The Bartimaeus Trilogy (book 3)

As this is the last book in the trilogy you have to have read other two books to understand everything that is going on and how the characters lives have been brought together, in a complicated web of right and wrong. We revisit Nathaniel, Bartimaeus and Kitty as the horror that is happening in government unfolds.

Nathaniel is still investigating the Resistance but as he is about to make his brake he discovers yet another plot to over throw the Prime Minister’s rule!

One of the Prime Minister's close friends decided that it's time for a new ruling body. They are people who let spirtis from the Other Place enter their bodies because they think that they will be given more powers - the power of the spirtis. But what they don't foresee happening is that the spirits take over their minds and take revenge on the magicians. Can Nathaniel save the government for the third time?

During all the work he does for Nathaniel, Bartimaeus gets an unexpected summoning from someone he never thought he’d see again. He is over worked by Nathaniel and his temper boils over and reverts back to his normal sarcastic and demanding self. That really gets on Nathaniel’s nerves and that means that their conflicting personalities clash yet again. We learn about his past and his unique bond with the ancient Egyptian Ptolemy.

Kitty is learning the ways of the magicians to try and create an almost unique bond between a human and a spirit.

I’d say that this is the best book of the trilogy and I’d defiantly recommend it to anyone who likes the fantasy of magic entwined into a modern day society. Stroud rounds of this fantastic trilogy with a spectacular end and the characters lives and friendships become stronger. A read for anyone 13+
