Young Mayor Application
What is the young mayor?
The Young Mayor is a person aged year 14 (aged 14 by 1 September 2009) to 19 or 25 if the young person has specific needs. They provide a link between the Borough Council and Melton Youth Council.
What would I be doing?
You will have a very packed schedule, you could be invited down to London to a conference or you could be asked to open somewhere in town. You also hold the position of president on Melton Youth Council where you will get hands on and make a difference in Borough. There is a lot of work involved but it is like a bucket the more you put in the more you get out.
Are there any other rules?
As long as you live, work or go to school in Melton Borough you can run for young mayor.
How do I apply?
There are two ways to apply:
A paper application which can be downladed here after you have filled it out you can e-mail it to youngmayor4melton@melton.gov.uk or post it to Melton Borough Council, Phoenix House, Nottingham Road, Melton Mowbray, LE13 0UL.
Or you can fill out the online application by clicking "Next" below. Your application will need to be submitted by the 14th September 2009
What happens next?
Candidate training will be arranged over the Summer Holidays - during this training you will have the chance to speak to past young mayors, the borough council, Melton Youth Council and other groups as well as finding out more about young mayor and what you will be doing. However the main aim of the candidate training is for you to plan your campaign.
