Life in Afghanistan
I am Hassan, I come from Afghanistan I have lived here for one year, so I can’t speak English very well, I am going to give you some information about my life in Afghanistan and other young people who lived in Afghanistan when I was there and what happened after I left, and hope if it helps you to understand what’s happening there.
Education: When I was there it was during the Taliban and Al Qaeda’s Government so study was very hard, I mean we just studied Arabic, and even that wasn’t free, yes we had to pay for that, and also, the facilities were not good. Now I compare the study system of Afghanistan to Britain I get lots of differences, the facilities aren’t as good, and of course students are safer here in the UK. So, in Afghanistan some schools don’t even have blackboards or roofs!
Economy: In Afghanistan there aren’t many things to do to make money to pay for study and the Government doesn’t pay for teachers to teach, so they have to work for free. The other big problem is that it is forbidden for girls and women to study and the teachers are threatened by the Taliban to not teach them. This is a horrible religious issue, I am really sorry about that.
People in an Area: I grew up in a village which is quite far from the provincial city. In that kind of location I think life is quite hard because there is nothing to see and nowhere to go for holidays, and no opportunity to play football or any other sports.
Personal issues: After the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, the people were divided into lots of Groups / Militia who fought against each other for nearly 30 years, which affected some people quite badly. After that, the Taliban militia rose to power, but things were no different for 7 years, with the same destruction and violence. Finally American and NATO troops came to Afghanistan to solve the problem, helping the people to gain their freedom and justice, who are still struggling to achieve this, and I hope they stay there and until Afghanistan is stable and free.
Finally my message for young people who live in the UK is to use their opportunities properly and help each other and people in need.
