A new document created by two members of Hinckley & Bosworth Youth Council, Martin and Simon, is set to be piloted in a Leicestershire school. John Cleveland College, Hinckley agreed to pilot the document, formally known as "Leicestershire Student and School Participation Charter".
The document was created with significant support from Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, County Youth Council Leicestershire and Leicestershire County Council's Youth Service and Healthy Schools, both part of the County Council's Children and Young People's service.
The idea of the document is to cement an agreement between the student body of a school and the school management to work together to capture and act on the student voice within a school's community. Beyond this, the Charter addresses Student Council functionality, responsibility and involvement within the school and wider community.
Schools that comply with certain criteria defined within the Charter will be able to apply for an award from Healthy Schools for Student Participation.
The front cover of the Charter was created by Josh L, the Youth Council's Publicity Officer.
The document will be formally launched in the coming months.
