Ground Control 2 - PC CDROM

Ground Control II show a powerful return for the RTS strategy genre, after it disputably burned itself out following an all too short stay as the planets most popular game genre. Like many a title before it the games became bloated by its own success and so complex that only dedicated fans could actually care to play them. Although Ground Control II has little that is new at least it allows casual gamers to play with a fair chance.

The main thing the game does to make itself more accessible to the average player is to remove the tiresome resource management business. The foundation of GC2 is about managing troops and getting into as many battles as possible, not fretting about whether your workers are mining enough ore. New units are given to you as you gain acquisition points in the process of a mission. The troops are then brought directly to the battlefield on huge dropships, again making sure you can concentrate on making war instead of messing around with factories and barracks
The emphasis on combat means you have a lot more control over your soldiers than previously, with the ability to change formations and utilize the terrain around you improve your position. One of the down sides is that apart from improved visuals there’s basically nothing here that hasn’t been seen before in the original Ground Control, but the new user friendly access and straight combat means that it should appeal to a much larger audience.
