Euro 2008 Austria-Switzerland
The story so far:
Euro 2008 has been far from a good campaign for the British teams as each team failed to qualify. England and Scotland came very close to qualifying being just a few points off, however Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland weren't quite as lucky.
Scotland had quite a tough challenge and did quite well seeing as they were up against the World Cup winners Italy and World Cup runners up France. Scotland came third by two points but had Scotland beaten the world cup winners they would have qualified but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.
You could say England’s opponents were easier than Scotland’s as these were Croatia and Russia. England finished the group with twenty three points, the same as Israel but England had a better goal difference than Israel. If England had held onto a draw against Croatia they would have qualified also but again this didn’t happen.
Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic Of Ireland did not do so well, Northern Ireland came third in their group but by quite a large six point margin ending on twenty points. Spain won the group on twenty eight points closely followed by Sweden on twenty six points.
Republic of Ireland and Wales were in the same group, Group D Republic of Ireland did the better of the two finishing on 17 points in third place 10 points off second position, Wales finished with 15 points finishing fifth out of seven, 12 points off second position. The teams who qualified were Czech Republic with 29 points and Germany with 27 points.
