what is an "emo"?

“Emo” is slang word for emotional. There have been many debates about what an emo is. Emo is a slang word used to describe a range of fashion styles such as music, clothing, and attitude. Some people think of a stereotype “emo” and associate them with self harm.

My Chemical Romance is just one of the few bands that are categorized into the genre “emo”.
Perhaps this is because of the use of their make-up for example black eyeliner also their longish hair covering their face…known as the “emo fringe”
This is just one of the ways “emos” are described to dress.

In many "emo" songs there is use of emotional language, maybe to express there feelings again this relates back to the slang use of "emo", emotional. In many songs they also mention the slitting of wrists and so on this again relates back to the stereo type of an "emo" I think no-one can actually define what an "emo" is, everyone describes them and sees them in a different way... which makes them unique.
