Detached Youth Project - Thurmaston
The youth workers will have ID badges so that you can check them out.
Young people often get ‘bad press’ for hanging around in groups on the streets. Members of the community can feel intimidated by the presence of large groups of ‘youths’ and often police are called to move them on. Sounds familiar? The detached project was set up to give young people contact with youth workers but where the young people meet rather than in a building.
We know that not all young people want to go to a youth club but they still have plenty they want to do and say! The youth workers are happy to listen to your views and also talk about any other issues which you feel are important – like alcohol, drugs, smoking and also relationships. You might like to try to improve facilities for young people in the area but not know how to go about it The youth workers will listen to you and whenever possible try to help you plan activities which you would like to do.
Look out for the youth workers on a Wednesday evening (between 6.00 and 8.30). They know most places you meet and will come to find you! Or you can arrange meeting places with them
