Charnwood Youth Council Highlights of 2010/2011
- Pride of Charnwood Awards (Awards to celebrate achievements of Young People)
- The Big Charnwood Youth Conference with over 120 attendee’s
- Supported the development of the new Loughborough Skate Park
- Developed a working partnership with local press including Oak 107 FM, Loughborough Echo and Charnwood News
- Given away £25,000 on behalf of PAYP (Positive Activities for Young People)
- Built a strong relationship with Charnwood Local businesses
- Increased Youth Council Membership throughout the Borough
- Help to write and design the minimum standards for anti-social behaviour in Charnwood
- Changed the Minimum age to get fined for littering
- Visited more rural areas of Charnwood including villages and place outside of Loughborough
- Ran a stall in partnership with Leicestershire County Youth Service at Mountsorrel fun day to raise awareness of sexual health and to promote our ‘100 face pledge’ project
- Interviewed several local area Youth Managers
- Engaged with Loughborough Women’s Aid
- Engaged with Teenage Pregnancy coordinator
- Ran a stall in partnership with Leicestershire County Youth Service at Loughborough Picnic in the Park
- Run and Developed our ‘100 face pledge’ project including designing posters, photography and collecting pictures of young people with their environmental pledges
- Helping Rothley Village to get a skate park for the Young People there
- Built a strong working relationship with Shepshed Youth Forum and Passion Youth Group
- Built relationships with the RNIB College in Loughborough
- Participated and raised money in the Comic Relief Fun Run
- Ran an environmental stall at Rendell Primary School Fete
- Built new relationships with UKYP through the new UKYP member for Charnwood
- Visited and listened to young people at disabled youth groups.
- Created a cabinet report of issues within Charnwood which was presented to Councillors
- Joined the Mayor in the Charnwood Council Chamber to have tea and learn about the history of Charnwood Borough and Loughborough
- Visited Detached Youth Projects within the Borough
- Participated in Councillor Speed Dating sessions
- Engaged with environmental services and the local waste contractor to discuss issues regarding waste and recycling
- Created the New Youth Council Structure instead of an elected executive committee
- Participated in many different team activities and trips including a visit to Tamworth to look at Young Peoples voice work
