Countesthorpe Youth Centre
Gets another face lift
The summer Holidays is the time for re-vamps. This year the college has improved the kitchen in the Youth Area. The venue has now got a great slick, hygiene feel. Making it more appealing to young people who want to feel more at home to make food and drinks. Don't gorget there is also clean white pool tables, cool seating area and chill out. There is still the activity and computer room, plus cooking area.

Youth Training Programme
Due to popular demand the Youth Training project is running again at Leysland High School. The Young People responded really well and enjoyed all the sessions getting certificates of participation and learning outcomes.
The Health and Beauty sessions covered topics such as make up, relaxation and making face masks. Hair care involved looking at styles that suit and making home made shampoo and conditioner. However its important to listen to instructions after one Young person put all the conditioner on thier hair - instead of a third of the mix and spent all thier time trying to wash it out!!! Very funny at the time, still wondering if they have any banana left in thier hair.
The Cooking and Food Hygiene has attracted some males to the course, which is great and we are hoping to get some budding chefs from the programme. The course will teachyou how to be safe while also having fun and cooking lovely healthy food.
All course run term time only. They are all ran from the Home Economic Room at Leysland, except Babysitting which is in room centre 88 off the Youth Area at Countesthorpe Community College.
Dates of next sessions are:
· Babysitting
Begins Thursday 4th September 2008
(10/ 12 week course)
· Health and Beauty
Begins Monday 15th September 2008
(8 week course)
· Hair Care
Begins Monday 17th November 2008
(4 week course)
· Cooking and Food Hygiene
Begins Monday 12th January 2009
(8 week course)

Residential Fun
What a great time we all had at Beaumanor. The Victory Club and Young Carers all went away together and had a fantastic time. All Young People got on great and supported each other on all the challenges they had to do.
The group took part in team building - getting the whole group to sit on 3 sticks!!! Making a human crane and walking the plank. They also made a splash with canoeing, but did make it safe to dry land and finally faced thier fears on the high ropes and zip wire.
Tammy and Louise were hotter than the sun in thier room as the heating was soo hot and got told of by the girls. While Matt kept the group going with his fine sporting skills.
We are organising another resi this October half term due to the success on YOF money and popular demand.
If you want to be involved in any of these groups and take part in Youth Activities call Tammy on details at bottom of page for mre info.
Young Carers
Get support
The Young Carers group is for young people who help care for a parent, brother or sister or a family member living with them. This is more than just doing the washing up for some extra cash.
Young Carers provide emotional and physical support above and beyond the average young person. We meet every Tuesday 7pm to 9pm providing a rest bite for young carers to meet, socialise, have a night off and be themselves. We always provide something to eat, a fun activity and organise trips and residential's.
If you think you are a young carer and want to know more then contact Tammy on the details below.
Holiday Youth Activities

Glen Parva Summer
Over the Summer Holidays we held 3 weeks of summer activities as Glen Parva, Countesthorpe and Blaby. We also delivered a babysitting course and senior member training plus a dodgeball event and detached sessions in Cosby, Countesthorpe and Blaby.
We had even more sports, arts and crafts and at Blaby we made time for a couple of BBQ's. We had loads more people come this year and really hope that we can build on what we have done so we offer more to more young people ewach year.
We are planning residentials, first aide course and Christmas parties for the next half term holidays so watch this space for more info.
If you want something to do in the holidays why not contact Tammy and ask to put your name on the mailing list.
