Depression Alliance

Provides information, support and understanding to those who are affected by depression. Also campaigns to raise awareness amongst the general public about the realities of depression. Co-ordinates a national network of self-help groups so that people can share experiences and coping strategies with others in similar situations. An information pack is available upon request. Also runs a pen friend scheme to put people in touch is others who will understand.

The project which became 'Throwing Stones' was conceived by Leicestershire police in 1995 after a series of abusive racist incidents on a housing estate in Leicester. The targets of this abuse were mostly Asian women taking their children to a local school. Those responsible for the incidents were children and young people who lived locally, almost all of them white children.
