Collectormania 10

Hopefully you’ll know what Collectormania is as we’ve attended quite a few now, but just in case you don’t, quite simply it’s a science fiction convention/fair where a number of stalls are set up to sell their wares (comics, star wars figures etc), and where “celebrities” are present to sign autographs (for a fee of course).

The latest Collectormania event at Milton Keynes seemed a little underwhelming this time round. We travelled down early Friday morning to the vast shopping centre for our free entry into the event, scouted around and sorted out who we definitely wanted to get a photograph of with our logo, and who may not be so well known by young people. It was at this point we felt a little deflated.

I was quite looking forward to seeing Alice Krige (Borg Queen in Star Trek Voyager) and George Lazenby (played James Bond once), but as it turns out they were only there on Saturday and Sunday, and you could probably imagine how busy Milton Keynes shopping centre is on those particular days!

First up on our shopping list of celebrities was Lance Henriksen (played the android character Bishop in the sci-fi film “Aliens”), but unfortunately people weren’t being allowed to take photographs of him, unless it was part of the organisers official photo sessions, which as you guessed it, costs extra. On that note we have to date sent the organisers three or four e-mails asking if we can perhaps interview one of their guests, but haven’t even received an acknowledgement from them saying they had received them.

So, although our mission to get a picture of “Bishop” holding our logo failed, we moved on to Juliet Landau. That name may not mean much to you but if I said “Drusilla” from the hit TV series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, then you’d probably be able to picture her very easily. In talking to Juliet I have come to a rather shocking conclusion which is “people who play the roles of Vampires/Demons are very nice people”. If you want proof, look no further then our earlier articles on Collectormania, a green demon from “Angel”, and a whole host of vampires from the film “The Lost Boys”, and all of the actors concerned were really nice to talk to. Would Juliet disprove this theory? No, far from it.

Juliet Landau

She had apparently arrived in the UK a few days earlier (very sensible indeed), and had seen a play in London the previous night (at that point I totally forgot why I was there and recommended the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford, especially as Patrick Stewart was performing there). However, despite being very chatty and friendly though I do have a confession to make and that is: I could easily see why she was chosen to play the role of a vampire, because if she had put in a pair of false vampire fangs I would have probably screamed and ran away!

As you can see, we have a photo of Juliet with our logo, but just a reminder that she is in no way connected with the site or endorses it. She was just very kind in posing for us, and seemed genuinely interested in what we did.

So all in all not the best event we’ve ever attended, but certainly a big thank you to Juliet for making it worthwhile.
