The Youth Workers with the Education of Children in Care Team have endeavored to bring informal education to as many Young People in Care in Leicestershire since the creation of the team back in 2008.
We now have an opportunity to extend our services to accommodate term time alternative educational provision for young people in care aged 13-16 years.
This will support and compliment the young person’s social and skill based development as well as their weekly educational time table within their formal educational environment.
Project Blueprint aims to achieve the following:
- Equip young people with the necessary skills to re-engage back in to mainstream education or prepared for employment.
- Develop young people’s basic skills such as communication and listening, leadership, rights and responsibilities, team work, confidence and self esteem. As well as soft skills development there will also be an emphasis on preparing for the workforce and issue-based projects (such as sex and relationships, drugs education, bullying and discrimination etc).
- Recognise young people’s achievements through varied accreditation schemes such as ASDAN, ALAN Key skills, BSM awards and outdoor pursuits schemes, based on the skills and needs of the individual.
