Half Term Activities at Moira Furnace
Youth Workers and parents from across the area brought 40 young people together for a day of outdoor activities based at Moira Furnace. Young people attended from Castle Donington, Kegworth, Coalville and Ashby with Senior Members helping out with the activities. On offer during the mornings activities were: Katakanuing and Kayaks on the Ashby canal and cycling on ther trails around the Moira Furnace site.

A breezy morning led to a good deal of hilarity and bank bashing in the Katakanu's, with the time honoured tradition of 'towing from the bank' employed to return crews helpless with laughter back to the wharf. Cycling proved popular, even if exhausting for those supervising.
The sun came out at lunchtime giving some warmth to the picnic and a chance for everyone to relax and recover from the morning's exertions. Refueled and rested energy levels soon returned, just in time for the 'Sumo Suits' to put in an appearance.
The warm if breezy weather continued during the afternoon as groups returned to the water for more time in the Katakunus and kayaks, whilst others took time to buzz around the Moira site and along the towpath to 'encourage' the paddlers.
The afternoon concluded with tired and somewhat 'soggy round the edges' (in some cases rather more than round the edges), but still remarkably cheerful participants, scattered back to the various parts of North West Leicestershire.
