CivCity: Rome - PC DVDROM
From the makers of the "Civilization" series comes, an open-ended city building game, CivCity: Rome. You might think that because it’s by the same company as Civilization it would distinctly have the same high quality standard, but I’m afraid not.
For those of you who have ever played the game Pharaoh, just imagine much the same, only with a much less advanced social system, farming system and building system all poorly converted onto the sage engine. Then it manages to thief a hint of “The Settlers” with its “Advanced Resource System”. Please, this kind of game structure has been around since 1998.

What I find most strange is that the game takes so many standard concepts that have been used over and over, but the control system is somewhat confusing, the most difficult task in the game being to rotate your camera angel which requires about 3 different keys to be pressed together. Its almost like they’re trying to make the game more challenging.
Graphic wise, the game looks stunning when you develop into the later levels with grand statues and temples, but on a basic scale, it seems as if they just ignored detail on basic building like, small homes and shops.
The “defensive” buildings are pathetic too. The main structure is a small tower with a man inside, who throws rocks at “Enemy Units”. (Enemy Units including Lion who otherwise wouldn’t attack you.)
Bluntly, this game sucks. Don’t buy it. I feel quite frankly tricked out of my £35. If you feel the need to play it, just buy “Pharaoh”, it’s more fun and would probably cost you under £5.
