Call of Duty 3 - Nintendo Wii
Call of Duty 3 is the third game to the Call of Duty Series, following Call of Duty 2: Big Red One and Call of Duty: Finest Hour.
COD 3 (Call of Duty 3) was Developed by Treyarch & Pi Studios and Published by Activision, initially released November 7th 2006 (USA) and released 10th November 2006 for Europe.
COD 3 is a first person shooter wartime game set in WWII. The storyline outlines the battles between the “Allied” (Britain, France, Poland, Canada and America) and the “Axis” forces (Germany) and sets you in the lives of 4 soldiers, each from one of the different Axis forces.
As COD 3 followed COD 2 in the COD series it has a lot of hype to live up to, as its predecessor won “game of the year 2005” and holds the record for best-selling game for the Xbox 360 (source: www.callofduty.com). Now COD 3 although being the next generation of COD 2, with upgraded graphics, more missions and a new host of abilities and maps, didn’t really seem to be worthy of the title. It was more like an expansion pack. The game play was the same, if I had been given both and had to ignore the graphics I wouldn’t have been able to tell which one was the newer version at all.
However it was not all bad, the graphics were improved immensely and the flow of the game seemed smoother.
Overall as a game COD 3 seemed a little lacking, I don’t know whether I was expecting more (and I suspect I was) but it just didn’t seem like it was built for the new generation consoles (Xbox 360, Playstation 3 & Nintendo Wii).
The campaign was mainly what the game was built for and it does not disappoint. If you want to buy COD 3 because you like the campaigns then go buy it, it’s very good, with in-depth storylines and a very satisfying length as well so you don’t feel like you’ve been cheated. You play as the Americans which puts you in control of Private Nicholas in the 29th Infantry Division, the British which puts Sergeant Doyle of Special Operations Executive’s life in your hands, the Polish meaning you can play as Lt. Bohater in the Polish 1st Armoured Division and the Canadians where you are Pte. Cole. All campaigns are well written and leaves no COD fan feeling robbed.
The multiplayer has less to be said about, seeing as it was basically non-existent. You have to play online to get your just desserts as split screen only exists on the Xbox 360 allowing for up to 4 players simultaneously. However when you do get to play multiplayer the dominantly team-based games are very strategic, not for the “spray and pray” types but definitely for close friends with a love of using sneaking and sniping to gain ground gradually.
This game will be liked by first-person-shooter fans and loved by COD fans, however leaves much to be desired for general gaming fans.
