Avril Lavigne - Under My Skin

Avril Lavigne

In 2002 Miss Lavigne debuted in the music world as an alternative to teen queens Britney and Christina with her album “Let Go”. Her guitar based rock/pop tracks were easy to listen to but the whole bratty/complicated teen image would get very tiresome and wasn’t entirely believable as two songwriters called the “Matrix” (who had at least twenty years on the Canadian singer) fed her most of the material. So we now have the second album “Under My Skin”.

It is quite funny when some reviewers say things like “found this to be a surprisingly different album from its predecessor”, but that’s probably because the songs have come from a different source, and for once we have some more heartfelt lyrics penned (or co-written) by Avril. Like her music or not, one can’t deny that she is talented, and where her music may not be to everyone’s taste, it is largely pretty inoffensive.

There are twelve tracks on the CD and “Take Me Away” starts it off with good intentions, and as a whole continues to be pretty good the whole way through. The first track is followed by quite a teen angst fuelled song entitled “Together”. The other 10 tracks are just as good with songs such as “Who Knows” and “Freak Out” reminding listeners of the debut album with their sound.

My only annoyance with this album is the software that automatically tries to install itself when you try and play it through a PC. If you have a computer and are thinking of putting Avril’s new album into the CD drive then my advice to you is…..don’t.
