You Me At Six

After queuing for only a few minutes, but what felt like an hour in the freezing cold we were in, thawing out, waiting patiently for the show to start. There were loads of people already in ‘You Me at Six’ t-shirts after pre-emptive raids of the ‘merch’ stand, so you could tell they were getting prepared for a good night!

Somehow, in a moment of true bravery, I found myself right at the front of the crowd for the first 3 songs. Everyone was screaming and going mental for the band. They started with the classic ‘Save it for the bedroom’, possibly their most famous song and a good choice to start off with, instantly getting the crowd going. They followed this song by a few tracks off the new album and tour, titled, ‘Hold me down’.

About half way through their setlist they performed the song ‘The Consequence’. This featured Sean Smith from ‘The Blackout’ who had been the main support act for the tour. You could tell the crowd were big fans of The Blackout too as they screamed even more when Sean came on stage. This nicely highlights just how great the “You Me at Six” fans are, being equally welcoming of the support acts as they are of the ‘main event’, as opposed to just seeing them as a hindrance.

After the craziness of some classic ‘You Me at Six’, they slowed things down a bit with an acoustic set. This featured the songs ‘You’ve made your bed (so sleep in it)’ and ‘Always attract’. The crowd were swaying from side to side. There was still a lot of energy in the crowd even for these slow songs. The rest of the band then came on stage and finished, well before coming back on to do an encore, with ‘The Rumour’, a song from the band’s first album ‘Take Of Your Colours’, which went down a storm with the crowd.

After about 3 minutes of the expectant crowd chanting ‘You Me at six’ they re-appeared on stage, loving the atmosphere, enjoying the crowd. The encore consisted of 3 songs all taken from the new album, which came as a bit of a surprise to me as I thought they would have ended on some classic songs from their earlier work. However these songs were just as good, with the band choosing to finish with ‘Underdog’ which once again the crowd went crazy for. On a personal note, for me, ‘Underdog’ was the best song of the night. All in all the show was brilliant and I can’t wait to see them again!
