Dear Readers

Hi, I’m Saffy, Nathan’s pet beagle. Unfortunately Nathan is unable to write this article about the debut from We Are Enfant Terrible because he has fallen sideways into a coma. I believe it was because of the awful electro-pop trash that was coming out of the laptop. He was screaming with fright at the first track Make You Trash. About half way through a man, for no apparent reason, started talking the lyrics. It sounded like that some random member of the public had just walked into the studio for a chat. Technically, it was a crime to music, and that’s a dog talking. It sounded all cut and pasted, with no originality.

The art to a good song is music set to lyrics, not words set to music. This is more evident in the second piece Filthy Love which sounds like three blokes who have had too much to drink and created a track to default “electro” rhythms that you find on one of those old 80’s synths. According to the bit of paper that I found on the table the album is meant to boost “witty, catchy lyrics”. This tracks ONLY lyric is “I feel so low”. I think I can hear Nathan mumbling this. I’ll need to kick him.

However, to stop myself sounding like a biased daily tabloid, there are moments of glory. Moments. I like some of the introductions and instrumental sections of the tracks, particularly the songs Sick Crooner (Track 5) and Spade Attack (Track 9). Sick Crooner has a great mix of Gameboy-style music tracks and live guitars. This creates a very clever effect, and if this was a CD of pure music it would be a great listen. It is the bad singing and vocals that let this CD down. The vocalists talk (it doesn’t deserve to be called singing) over each other making the lyrics very hard to hear and pick up.

Overall, the vocals are bad and the music has its moment but is generally out of tune. This genre of music doesn’t deserve to be called music.

P.S: If any one is worried about Nathan, he’s coming back in to consciousness, after I binned the CD and played chamber music instead.
