War Rock is a strategy-based FPS shooter game brought to you by the K2 Network Inc. and Dream Execution Technology Co Ltd.The first thing that makes War Rock unique is the fact that it is a free download, therefore anyone can pick it up and play.
As you start you are faced with a choice of 3 styles of gaming, “Close-Quarters Combat” which is your strategy-based “base defence/offence” (Counter Strike: Source) style gaming, if that doesn't tickle your fancy you can also choose the fast-paced “Urban Ops” medium size maps, with “Base-Capturing” style of playing and light vehicles, or if you prefer things a little more relaxed then you can choose your “Vehicle Ops” large map with “Base-Capturing” style of playing, but with much larger maps and a large amount of larger/heavier vehicles, including even flyable jets and helicopters, and attack-boats. As you play you gain points and experience for kills and base captures, and at the end of the match you get in-game cash to spend on new and better weapons, and once your experience mounts up you grow a rank.
ThereĀ are 5 different soldier types to choose from:
Mechanic – The mechanic is mainly used in the “Vehicle Ops” servers, he is equipped with the fists, a pistol (upgradeable), a sub-machine-gun (upgradeable) and a spanner used for fixing vehicles when not near a depot.
Medic – The medic is essentially the same as the Mechanic except she carries a med-gun with her instead of the spanner, this is used for healing yourself/other players on the move.
Sniper – The sniper is mostly used on the “Urban Ops” servers as he prefers to 'camp' on hills or on roofs away from the thick of the fighting and take pot-shots at people. He comes equipped with fists, pistol (upgradeable), a sniper rifle (upgradeable) and a set of grenades.
Assault Trooper – The assault-trooper is the bread-and-butter infantry used by the beginners and the elite, you are either god-like or a 'noob' when using an assault trooper. Despite always having the most deaths they usually have the most kills as well and are essential to a well-working team, and provided they are used skilfully they usually are the edge a team needs to gain victory. He comes equipped with fists, pistol (upgradeable), an assault rifle (upgradeable) and a set of grenades.
Heavy Weapons Unit – The heavy weapons unit is favoured on the “Vehicle Ops” server as he is used as an anti-vehicle trooper. While moving slowly he is susceptible to a good assault trooper but can also be the saviour when a cornered base is being overrun by a tank. He comes equipped with fists, pistol (upgradeable), a rocket/homing missile launcher (upgradeable) and anti-tank mines.
Whilst being unique in its multiple-style gaming and a large choice of maps and vehicles it can become randomly unstable and disconnect. The connection to their servers is unreliable and a lot of the time it can be flaky. The FAQ's can sometimes help but most of the time you have to sort out your own problems, mainly by re-downloading the files. Also there are a lot of 'bot hackers' which run riot amongst games.
However despite the bad connection problems and lack of effective anti-hacker software the game is not very processor-intensive and can be run on an slower pc, but I strongly advise staying on a small/medium map with not many players. Overall I say this game is worth downloading and trying out at the very least.
