UP Review

Disney Pixar are without a doubt one of the strongest partnerships ever forged in film, boasting a host of modern animated classics such as the ground breaking Toy Story and the innovative Monsters Inc. Have they done it again with their tenth escapade? You’re damn right they have!
UP takes us on the journey of a lifetime, with our unlikey hero widowed pensioner Carl Fredrickson and his balloon driven flying house. Carl since he was a young boy always wanted to follow in the footsteps of his idol Charles F. Muntz a dream shared by his late wife Ellie. The adventure seems over before it’s started as Carl is forced to Shady Oaks retirement home, but he’s not going to give up this easily and decides he’ll live his dream and take the whole house to Paradise falls. Mr.Fredrickson acquires an assortment of companions on his way including junior scout Russell and a talking dog Dug. With this assembly of characters you know boredom if as far away from you as a NASA space program. If I were to tell you there were more talking dogs, that’s right, talking dogs flying in planes, that’s flying talking dogs. Genius and in no way tacky and it really could have been, but had me in stitches.
I was hooked from started to finish utterly captivated by the host of characters and the stunning world Pixar have laid in front of me, made even more impressive with the 3D glasses. I expected a visual feast and a good story because lets face it that’s just what Disney do. But the level of depth I was presented with left me shocked, in a good way that is, appealing across the board in a way no other Disney Pixar film has done before. I absolutely loved the style, with a few throw backs to the silent film eras reflecting the time period in a fitting and interesting fashion.
Its pure Disney magic from the off with a fantastic and gripping story line encased in visuals so sweet I may just have to go to the dentist. This is a must see, an excellent family film and its just shows things are still on the UP in the Disney Pixar camp.
