Twin Atlantic are a band who probably won't be playing places like the Nottingham rescue rooms for much longer. By this I mean they are definitely heading onto much bigger things, especially if the rapturous response they received when walking onstage is anything to go by.

As they energetically played a varied set of songs from both their albums 'Vivarium' and 'Free' they definitely seemed like a band who have crafted together a brilliant live show through the number of years they have been together. As they started with some of the lesser known songs from their backlist including 'What is light? Where is Laughter?' and 'Make a beast of myself', it was clear that the audience loved everything they were hearing as the majority of their set had the audience happily singing along.

As they settled into the second half of their set, some of the crowd favourites started to kick in and the audience sang along with even more happiness as their favourites were played. A definite highlight was when Sam and Barry played "Crash Land" to the sheer delight of myself and nearly every other person there. As the band continued to energetically play through their songs the enthusiasm never lulled. The encore at the end of the night was definitely a fan favourite one with the tracks 'Yes I was drunk' 'Time for you to stand up' and 'free' ending the night to a very happy and entertained crowd. As lead singer Sam McTrusty dove into the crowd towards the end of their set list the smile on his face as he got back onstage afterwards summed up exactly what a great live band Twin Atlantic are and I am very interested to see how they evolve in the future.

The support bands Arcane Roots and Dinosaur Pile Up were a very solid backing for the night ahead. I have been a bit sceptical about Arcane Roots after previously hearing their cover version of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' but it was a pleasant surprise to hear a much better sounding band than I originally anticipated and whilst the crowd weren't particularly enthused by them, they certainly gave it their best. Dinosaur Pile Up came up next and this received a better response and despite a few technical hitches with the first song the band played through an enjoyable, albeit short set list. This band certainly has a smashing pumpkins-esque quality about them but that did not detract away from a band that I will really be looking into more in the future.

All in all this was a fantastic gig to have been at and I cannot stress enough just how good Twin Atlantic are live, if you don't already own their albums, buy them. And if they are touring at a venue near you at some point, go see them live because they won't be playing small venues like this for much longer.
