The Bourne Supremacy (12A)

Starring: Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Brian Cox, Julia Stiles, Karl Urban, Gabriel Mann, Joan Allen
Second in the 'Bourne' series. Jason Bourne (Damon) is once again under fire from his former 'employers' when they show up in the same village that both he and Marie (Potente) have been living under assumed names.
Forced to go on the run, he attempts to make sense of the shattered memories of his old life, whilst staying one step ahead of Pamela Landy (Allen), who is determined to bring him down for murders that Bourne didn't commit.
Unlike most sequels, Supremacy requires you to have seen the first, in order to follow the plot. Having not seen it, even though I'd been treated to a run down beforehand, I struggled more than Bourne did to make sense. This in itself was disappointing.
Supremacy delves deep into the action genre, focusing mainly on guns, violence and car chases, which to me seemed to have been ripped from 'Gone in 60 seconds'.
The only thing that I thought redeemed this film, was the way in which Bourne isn't portrayed as invincible. Yes, he does get hurt (surprise, surprise, it's whilst he's driving as well! Do they teach them nothing in assassin school?) and no, it doesn't magically 'vanish' in the next scene...even if he does walk with a fake limp for a while.
Final thoughts? I would only recommend this to those with the ability to disregard plot and settle for random violence and car chases, which is all that seems to be on offer here.
