The University Hospitals of Leicester Membership
Posted by Guest Writer on Tue, 07 Apr 2009.
The University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) wants to hear from young people. We are now a membership organisation and are looking for young people age 16 and over to become members. Membership is FREE!
The really important part….why do we want you to become members?
We believe that the NHS and local hospitals belong to the people who use them, your friends and loved ones and all the other people who live locally and may one day use the services we provide. You have new ideas. We know having you as members will really make a difference in how are hospitals are run.
As a member you choose how involved you want to be. You could go the whole way and seek to be elected as a Governor of the Trust or you can just ask to be kept in touch. It is your choice and either way we will be delighted to have you ‘on board’.
About us
We now take care of over 1 million patients a year (from Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire and beyond), which means that we are one of the biggest hospital trusts in the country. We also employ over 13,000 staff.
The reason that we are called ‘University’ Hospitals of Leicester’ is that we are also a ‘teaching trust’. This means that we work alongside Leicester’s universities to train new doctors and nurses coming into the NHS. This is important because teaching trusts lead in the development of new and better ways to care for and treat patients.
Did you Know?
- We treat 375 people a day in the Emergency Department
- We deliver 9,400 babies every year
- We have ‘balanced the books’ every year for the past 6 years
- We have over 1000 volunteers.
