Did you know I’ve been struck by lightening 7 times?!

Winner of 3 Oscars (Best Achievement in Art Direction, Best Achievement in Makeup and Best Achievement in Visual Effects) and nominated for many more The Curious Case of Benjamin Button tells the story of a miracle... or two.

Hurricane Katrina is about to hit New Orleans in August 2005 as Elderly Daisy (Cate Blanchett) is on her death bed with daughter by her side. As a last request she asks her daughter to read from a diary, not just any old diary, but the one her closest friend written many years ago. The Diary of Benjamin Button.

Young Benjamin Button

Benjamin was born an old man, his father horrified at the sight, and mother dying through child birth decides that there is no place for him in the family and promptly snatches the child finally abandoning him on the doorstep of Queenie (Taraji P. Henson). Queenie, A caregiver at a seniors’ home takes him in and looks after him as one of god’s children. This is where he meets Daisy for the first time.

life is full of trials and he meets many people including a tug boat captain named Mike and a man who has been struck by lightening no less than 7 times. As Benjamin gets progressively younger the people around him get older, people come and go. He and Daisy settle somewhat and go off on an adventure.

I wont tell you anymore… this is one of them films that you have to see for yourself! A running time of around 2 hours 40 minutes in my opinion its every bit worth the money.

What makes this film stand out?

Well… Benjamin! Growing younger… I struggled to see how this could be portrayed well but with the use of several actors depicting Benjamin throughout the years of his life. I have to say Brad Pitt was a good choice for the younger Benjamin.
Oscars generally don’t get awarded unless they’re deserved… and In my opinion this is the best film I’ve seen in a long while. It’s well thought out plot, clever choice of cast and long run time makes you feel the quality and effort that went into making the film. It encompasses several geners of film including Drama, Mystery, Romance… also had me chuckling on several occasions!

Rated 12A this is a film for pretty much any demographic. If you like comedy there are bits you’ll love, Action? Yep there are bits for you… A good all rounder of a film to be honest.

So… if you haven’t already… GO SEE IT!
