Tap Tap Revenge is a free rhythm based game for the iPhone or iPod touch. The game mimics a basic 3 stringed guitar, and the player has to tap the beat on the required string.
The game has very receptive touch based controls. The beats are very clear when displayed on the strings, and it is easy to see when the beat is required to be touched. The game also makes good use of the accelerometer (motion sensor) that is installed in both devices. When the option is turned on, the user must shake the device in the indicated direction. This automatically increases the difficulty of the game by adding a new dimension to the game play.
The difficulty of the game is very well controlled. After the main screen, the player is given four difficulties to choose between. There is a noticeable change between each difficulty level, and major differences between the easiest and hardest settings. There are songs on each setting as soon as the game is downloaded, and there are many more available for download.
There are two main online features of the game. The first is the aforementioned ability to download new playable tracks on multiple difficulty settings. There is a wide variety of new songs available for download on a regular basis. The second online feature is an online scoreboard. This is good for rating yourself against the best players, and seeing where you are on the leader board.
There are occasionally competitions available to compete on that are displayed on the main screen. These competitions are of varied formats. There are competitions for the highest score, but also other format competitions for those who are fantastic at the game. One example of this is to play the game the most over a set period of time. There are real prizes for winning a competition, which have varied greatly in the past.
The game also includes a good multiplayer mode, where two players share the screen and compete against each other to achieve the highest score. The game can be slightly confusing when playing this mode, as the strings start close to each other. This may be room for improvement in a future version.
Overall, this is a good quality game with regular additions. The game has the potential for two players. This game is very good value for free. I would recommend downloading this game if you have an iPhone or iPod touch.
