Supersonicboom 2007

Supersonicboom is a showcase event managed by Oadby & Wigston Borough Council, and this year in association with, Slyarts and The Jitty. Every year has seen an improvement on the last, both in terms of organisation and in terms of young talent been shown, and this year certainly delivered.

Initially there had been disappointment that "My Jaded Hero" had dropped out, but the bands who played on the day more then made up for it. The venue, Willow Park, was buzzing, with around 500 - 600 people on site coming in and out of the large Marquee where the local bands were giving it their all.

Blacksmith were noteworthy not only for the choice of hats worn by their lead singer, but more importantly by their impromptu lineup change. Their drummer had been in an accident the night before the gig, so their bass player ended up playing drums instead, but they played nonetheless, and this was a huge credit to them. Even with no bass, a friend in hospital, and their bassist filling in on drums, they were still good. Had everything been ok and gone to plan you get the feeling that they would have been better then just good. If you get a chance to see these guys play live, I urge you to do so.

Alpha Centauri were exceptional. Some of the audience were blown away by their performance while others were shocked as they'd never come across this type of "driven with a vengeance" type of music before. The sheer venom their songs were delivered with was enough to knock you off your feet. I later found out that this band had been together for less then a year, and given their fine polished performance, would never have guessed this.

The eventual winners, and for the second time in a row, were "The September Flaw". They've gone through some personnel changes, adapted their sound a little, but still did a great show as ever, complete with guitars being swung around! They were certainly the audiences favourites judging by the applause after their set, and have no doubt gained yet more fans.
