Supersonic Aid 2008
Posted by bugrach on Sat, 04 Oct 2008.
The aim of the event was predominantly to raise money for the British Red Cross, but it was done in the style of ‘Battle of the Bands’ and therefore there was also a cash prize up for grabs for the winning act.
Me and four other students had the opportunity to go down to the event and get in front of the barriers and capture film footage, take photos and get radio interviews.
We arrived at 5:30pm to get our equipment set up and we arrived during sound check, so before the event started we had a taste of what to expect from the acts. But we weren’t the only people who were setting up for the event as through into the canteen area of the college there were lots of stalls being set up selling drinks, homemade cakes, handmade jewellery, gifts, glow sticks, raffle tickets and much more in the hope of raising as much money as possible for the Red Cross.
Over the next half hour the hall was filling up fast and there was a good atmosphere and vibe about the event, and people couldn’t wait for it to start.
6:00pm – it starts!

After all the performances each of the groups were given a red bucket and they had 10 minutes to get as much cash in each bucket as possible, so the audience had to put money into the bucket of their favourite artist. At the end of the 10 minutes all the money was counted up from each bucket and Harmen raised the most with £47.60.
There was also a prize for the best fund raising stall which went to the team who were selling raffle tickets.
It was now time for the winners to be announced.
2nd Place and going away with a ticket to represent Oadby and Wigston in a county wide event was Trust.
1ST Place and going away with a cheque for £250 was Harmen
Overall £600 was raised for the British Red Cross.
