Yet another teen movie hits the big screen but this off-the-wall comedy is no let down. With producers Judd Apatow and Shauna Robertson (The 40-year-old Virgin) and screenwriters Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen (Da Ali G Show) Superbad is this year’s comedy sensation.
Two high school boys on the verge of graduation face separation when they get in to different colleges. Evan (Michael Cera) and Seth (Jonah Hill) are invited to a party by girls who ask them to buy alcohol. They seek the help of their lovable geek friend Fogell (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)who has just got a fake I.D. Unfortunately, Fogell chose an ingenious name, McLovin, which the boys fear will ultimately be rejected at the liquor store.
The cinema audience watch in anticipation as Fogell takes the beer to the till and is asked for I.D. To everyone’s surprise, including Fogell’s, he is served. In a weird twist of events that follow Fogell is befriended by two comical cops who take him on a fast-paced ride of adventure.
In the meantime, Evan and Seth think that Fogell has been arrested so they go off in search of booze and end up having their own hilarious mishaps. After being knocked over by a car Seth blackmails the deranged driver into helping them get some alcohol. In the following scenes we see Seth and Evan at a out of control party and see them make a quick exit when someone starts a fight.
This laughed-out-loud film is definitely one to watch. It’s in the same league as other legendary coming-of-age comedies such as American Pie and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off . If you enjoyed these two films then Superbad should be next on your list of ‘must watch’ films.
