"Stephen K Amos, for those of you who don’t know who he is, is a comedian who has made appearances on Mock the Week, Have I Got News For You and Live At The Apollo. He is also a regular at the Festival Fringe. This week though, he’s been to Leicester, and we were lucky enough to go and see him.

As is customary, Amos was joined by another comedian, someone to warm up the crowd. Joining him was Joe Rowntree, and for those who watched the TV show ‘Brainiac’ a few years ago, he was one of the Brainiacs. He now does stand up comedy, how awesome is that?! I have to admit, I didn’t have high hopes for him at first, I thought he was just an upcoming comedian and wouldn’t be as professional as most of us would expect. I was wrong. He was excellent, most of his material was relatable and that which wasn’t was funny none the less. Rowntree is a great storyteller, his act consisted of three stories mainly, all of his own experiences, retold with fantastic energy. He kept the audience, and myself, laughing throughout. I don’t think it will be long until he’s back on our screens, making us laugh in a whole new way. Check out his myspace here: http://www.myspace.com/joerowntreecomedian

After a short break, we return to the theatre, the curtains on the stage are closed. The lights go dark and Beyonces ‘Single Ladies’ begins to play. The curtains openly slowly to reveal Stephen K Amos, dancing along in front of a now hysterical crowd. What a start to the show! Amos is a great comedian and I was expecting great things from him, I’m pleased to say, I didn’t leave the show disappointed. After about twenty minutes of picking on a few members of the audience, the show really began. Amos tells a lot of stories about his childhood which, although I was unable to relate, were brilliant. He has a very clever way of including every member of the audience, no matter their age, in the joke. For every joke about something that happened to him as a child, he has another joke ready for the younger audience, usually about how we have it easier than he did. Unfortunately, there were a few jokes that I have heard before from him. Normally, this would be a bad thing, but Amos managed to keep the jokes feeling fresh. Stephen K Amos is a comedian well worth checking out, he even has a DVD available (which he was quick to remind us of at the end of the show.)"
