SnakeBite UK - Interview

Hammerfest, I suspect, may be one of the most lunatic, fun festivals held in the UK. It's true that it's capacity is smaller then the likes of Download and Sonisphere, but every time it runs it's a full house, and mayhem subsequently ensues in Prestatyn, Wales. As my colleague has said to me before, it's just one of those really prestigious specialist festivals that attracts some of the most well known metal bands in the business such as; Paradise Lost, Napalm Death, Opeth, Ill Nino and so on. These bands for the most part always have sell out shows because of their die hard, and quite frankly awesome, fans, and actually, I personally would love to attend. However, given my age etc, would I be able to survive a weekend at Hammerfest?

Well, I decided to man up, and sent Patryk and Joe along. I reasoned that if they survived, then I might hazard it next time round. Sort of like dipping your toe in the water, but safer (dipping somebody else's toe in the water)!! I haven't seen Patryk or Joe since the festival, but they did send me some great photos and interviews, so I assume our insurance people can breathe a sigh of relief now.

Patryk managed to speak to Jason Smith, vocalist for UK metal band, SnakeBite.

How are things moving forward for you guys?

Snakebite

Good, moving slowly, I mean we been going for like 9 years and we always tried to just enjoy it but it has been getting serious for the last couple of years... Serious I say where it still doesn't feel like an unpaid profession, still a hobby with a little bit of payment.

You've played the after show at the Mastodon gig, so how was that for you?

Oh yea, that was quite good actually, it was at about 1 o'clock and we were quite worried because usually when they do after show parties, nothing official, not many people turn up but this one was packed, it was wicked.

How do you feel about Hammerfest?

I mean we are only here for one day as we paid the accommodation for one night, so we literally just got here this morning and we didn't even have a chance to get a beer yet as we've been doing different interviews since we got here.

Are you getting on it after?

My god, oh my god, we better be partying like no one's business tonight.

Are you getting any ink done tonight?

No, I'm a tattooist so I just get loads done.

What are your upcoming tours, shows?

We're writing at the moment so we haven't got anything much planned, so hopefully we can get something out next year and go to some festivals with some new stuff.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

Oh man I listen to stupid amounts of different music.

Finally which band do you look forward to hearing tonight?

Well yesterday there was quite a few which we missed but we're looking forward to Skindred and we'll catch some of the other bands at the same stage as us when we're drinking and... We will probably be too drunk to realise what is going on. (laughs)

Ok thanks for your time.

No worries man, wicked!
