Saturdays 3

February 21st 2011, what a night! Frankie Sandford, Una Healy, Rochelle Wiseman and Vanessa White, aka The Saturdays (well, 80% of The Saturdays...), came to De Montfort Hall for the second time, this time as part of their second headlining tour, The Headlines Tour! Was it better than the bands last tour? What songs did they sing? Here’s my review of the night! Hope you enjoy it!

First off, we were treated to amazing support act Twenty Twenty! They rocked the stage as they played their songs, and got the whole crowd going! Girls all over the audience screamed as they got closer, or even opened their mouths! Even my aunt was rocking out in the audience to them! Definitely a new fan! Shortly after Twenty Twenty departed the stage, a six piece dance and singing group came on stage by the name of Six D. I wasn’t sure if I’d like them once they came on, but as soon as all the back flips and the dancing started, I got right into the swing of things! It was quite hard to hear some of their songs (or at least understand them) from all of the screams in the audience, but what I did hear I liked! After they left the stage, we had an hour to wait before the main attraction came on stage! During that hour, you had the option to sit and wait, or go and meet the support acts, but we just sat waiting, as we didn’t want to miss a thing! If we knew we had to wait an hour, we so would have met the supports!

Una and Frankie

After the wait, the screen played the amazing intro footage with The Saturdays holding cameras with newspaper headlines flashing up behind them, and then they rose from under the stage and started performing their latest single “Higher”. But something wasn’t right! Something was missing! Bubbly blonde Saturday Mollie King wasn’t there! Sad face! The fact that Mollie wasn’t there was the nights’ lowlight for me! After performing the nights first song, band member Rochelle Wiseman announced that Mollie wasn’t there due to her doctor advising her to not perform as she was ill L Nevertheless, Frankie, Una, Rochelle and Vanessa all looked incredible the whole night, and I definitely couldn’t stop staring at them! As they danced perfectly and sung to their back catalogue of tunes, the whole audience were dancing and singing back to them! The band treated us to past musical gems such as “Up”, “Work” and “Just Can’t Get Enough”, to newer songs such as “Puppet”, “Karma” and “Died In Your Eyes”. They even played a sneak preview of their next album with tune “Turn Myself In”, which is a great song that we have to wait until later in the year to physically own! Other songs they performed include the spine-tingling ballads “Here Standing” and “Issues”, upbeat tunes “Lose Control”, “One Shot” and “Denial”, and three Rihanna songs (“Love The Way You Lie”, “Whats My Name?” and “Only Girl In The World”).

Vocals have noticeably improved a lot since the last tour which was definitely a great addition, but it sounded like Una had a sore throat or something, as for one of the songs she was struggling to reach one of her high notes. The highlights of the whole night for me were the dance routines, their Rihanna medley (Which was AMAZING! They should SO record and release “Only Girl In The World”!), their amazing props such as the balloons (used for Just Can’t Get Enough) and the puppet strings (used for Puppet), and my favourite Saturdays song “Here Standing”.

Frankie

The whole night was absolutely fantastic, and the only way it would have been better was if all five girls were there! If you didn’t manage to get tickets to this show, then you really missed a fab night! But fear not because - as announced on the night by the gorgeous Frankie - The Saturdays are going back on tour this December and tour dates are being announced VERY soon! I’d recommend you go as once you’re there, you are guaranteed to have an incredible night!
