Critically acclaimed director, James Foley, who also brought At Close Range to the big screen, brings Perfect Stranger to you this spring. Although the hyped up marketing campaign suggests the promise of a big thrill, Perfect Stranger is some what of a let down with its mediocre plot and messy ending.
Investigative reporter, Rowena Price (Halle Berry) discovers her best friend has been killed and suspects that successful ad executive Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis) is involved. With the help of her friend Miles Hailey (Giovanni Ribisi), Rowena goes undercover becoming a temp working for Harrison, who goes by the name of Katherine. She also seduces him over the net pretending to be a woman named Veronica. The audience is kept waiting to find out who actually killed the victim with a lot of dead ends making you believe you have solved the puzzle only to doubt your theory.
Perfect Stranger has similarities to psychological thrillers Sixth Sense and Hide and Seek but lacks the powerful intensity of these films. There is no obvious hook for this film. Without giving too much away, the ending gives the feeling that too much effort went into confusing the audience than actually producing a decent film with a good storyline. It’s worth a watch if only to see Bruce Willis and Halle Berry’s capabilities of performing any role no matter how drawl the film is. All the actors in this film make the characters seem genuine but unfortunately, this is the films only appeal.
