Papa Roach - Metamorphosis

Californian nu-metal quartet Papa Roach are back with their sixth album “Metamorphosis”. The album was originally going to be called “Days of War, Nights of Love” but was renamed, and actually this makes sense because the band feels that their music is going through a transformation to "stuff that's...harder and faster”. So the question is, does this album have the same sort of catchy songs like Infest’s “Last Resort”?

 Well, my answer to that is, Yes. In fact, one Dan Marsicano goes as far to say that it hits the speakers with a blast of rock that can only be described as a firm kick in the ass.

The album opens with a nice instrumental that sets the scene for “Change or Die”. So in a sense, Change or die is the first official track, containing heavy guitar work and some screaming. Straight away, you can tell that Papa Roach are changing into a heavier, metal band (but then, what is metal?).

The first song released as a music video from “metamorphosis” on the 26^th October 2008 was Hollywood Whore which follows on from Change or Die with no let up in pace. “Cant take it no more”, yells Shaddix at all the greedy, ruthless employees of the entertainment industry who are so detached from the reality of the average inhabitants of planet Earth, that he continues to yell at them “Wake Up!”.

If Metamorphosis had enough coverage, it could potentially be as successful as “Infest”, Papa Roach are likeable, managing to survive through the nu-metal era when it seemed like everybody was doing it. They’ve dropped the “rap”, and have cranked up the attitude in an ear melting assault of guitars and vocals. I love it, I play it, and it sits between other CD’s on my shelf, every so often battering them. GET IT FROM SHOPS NOW!!!!!
