The Mighty Creatives: Who are we?
TMC is the young people’s creative development agency for the East Midlands. Our programmes and partnerships prepare children and young people for a lifetime of leadership, innovation and enterprise by giving them the creative skills to drive positive change in their lives and communities.
Through our work with young people and their families, schools, creative practitioners, cultural organisations, local authorities and other partners we will place young people at the heart of our flourishing region.
What we do?
We work with young people, creative professionals and organisations to manage project that help young people develop their creativity.
The projects that we’re running at the moment include:
Creative Partnerships
This is a national creative learning programme which is designed to develop the skills of children and young people and that of their teachers.
It works by matching schools, teachers and students with creative professionals such as artists, performers, architects, multimedia developers and scientists. They then think together about the challenges the school faces, and design creative programmes that tackle these issues and link to the school’s improvement plan.
Ignition*
This is a three-year programme of creative science activities and events across the East Midlands aimed at creating and nurturing young champions of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Find Your Talent
A programme which offers children and young people the chance to experience art and cultural activities in and out of school.
2009-2012 Journals Project
This is an exciting project for young people aged 11-21 to record their stories, thoughts and feelings in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.
This project includes visits to events and a chance to get behind the scenes. Last year’s participants worked around the Special Olympics which Leicester played host to in July 2009.
We need you!
We’re looking to recruit Young Board members to help support our development for the future.
“The work of a Trustee should be rewarding and enjoyable, and an opportunity to serve the community while learning new skills.” The Charity Commission
The Mighty Creatives was set up as an independent charity in 2009 to champion young people's creativity in the East Midlands. We are managing an annual budget of around £4m and we have over 20 members of staff working across the region.
Children and young people are central to the purpose and priorities of our organisation and, increasingly, young people are helping to manage our programmes and activities.
We have 5 Board members already, who helped to set up the organisation in April 2009. They are all based in the region and work in schools, local authorities, government agencies and arts and cultural sector organisations. We now want to increase the number of Board members to around 10 people, aged 16 or over, who can make a contribution to our development and help the organisation to grow.
TMC is a Registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee, which means that, legally, the Board is made up of Company Directors who are also the Trustees of the Charity. Being a Trustee of TMC is a non-Executive position, so it is unpaid, although we do pay for some expenses.
The organisation is based in Leicester but Board meetings and events take place around the East Midlands and Board members will need to travel across the region.
If you are interested in becoming a TMC Trustee, please call 0116 2616 834 and talk to Jackie Sloan, or email jackie@themightycreatives.com for more information.
The Mighty Creatives is an equal opportunities employer.
