When we interviewed Troy Brady from Amity Afflicition, he had mentioned that there were a lot of bands in Australia who as yet, had not been discovered by US or European audiences. We actually felt a bit ignorant that we hadn't yet made any efforts to find those bands and knew very little about the Australian scene. Thankfully, Troy set us straight, and our very own Alice went out determined to put this right.
It didn't take long for Alice to find "Love & Satellites", a relatively new band, but formed by experienced musicians. Their single, "Girl I used to Know" has been doing very well for itself on the internet, so Alice went to find out more from their Bass player, Chase.
First off, how long have you guys been playing?
It's only been 5 months since we started Love & Satellites, but please don't let that define us. Previously we've been in different bands learning the ropes in the underground scene here in Australia for many years, so this a new direction for us.
How did you all meet and what started off the idea of 'Love and Satellites'?
We've known each other as friends for a long time, but when we were getting this lineup together, we wanted to associate a concept behind the music. It's a simple mindset that hopefully some people can connect with. No matter what experiences have led each of us to this very point in time, there are always going to be ups and downs. Life's never easy at the best of times, but if you remember to focus on what you love, whether it's people, art, a cherished experience, your favorite hobby e.t.c. Your perspective can change for the better, along with your outlook. There's an old saying, 'If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change' and everything that revolves around that.
How hard has it been to start off? Have there been any problems gaining attention?
We've learnt it's always a tough gig picking up a guitar and putting yourself out there for the general public. There are many pitfalls and a huge wave of kick ass bands out there that are really hungry for it, so it was a bit daunting for us to find our place given the melodic genre we're going for. Fortunately though, our first single 'Girl I Used To Know' has reached out to some really cool people and we've been able to focus on doing what we love, playing music.

What would you say your style is?
Experimental Pop. But we still love our Pop Punk. Long term, we're working on developing a sound that balances catchy tunes with different guitar effects and idea's. We're going for an epic vibe musically and hopefully try to deliver our live show to as many people as we can.
You're from Australia, but are you planning to be touring in the UK sometime soon?
We'd love to perform in the UK, that'd be a dream come true actually. We're working on leads right now and touching base with UK promoters. We'll give it our best shot and hope for the best. Stay tuned on that one!
Are there any bands you would compare yourselves to? Or look to for inspiration?
We're heavily inspired by Angels & Airwaves, Tom Delonge is a musical genius. We're open to all types of music though, there's elements in every genre that reach out to different moments in life.
I've seen that you're keeping a lot of surprises close to your chest, how hard have you all been working to meet the high expectations your fans will be having?
Ah sorry about that. We've tried to be very careful with what we release and to respect anyone who is kind enough to support us. Last thing we want to do is let people down. With that in mind, we've put in a lot of extra work behind the scenes. Everything is shaping up good and all we can say for now is that we can't wait to announce the next lot of plans and new songs we've been working on for release. BTW, you'll be one of the first to know Alice.
What bands would you love to tour with in the future and why?
There are too many to mention! A dream come true would be a tour with like minded bands in any country raising money for some of the causes we support, like cancer research, anti bullying and polio eradication around the world.
Have you got any worries or doubts for the future? If so, what?
Worries and doubts will always exist, whether it's putting food on the table right through to facing a life changing situation. Everyone has their own story, struggles, fears and we love hearing about people who overcome the odds, it puts things into perspective and hopefully one day we can help inspire a few people when we can share our story.
Ideally where would you like to be in a few years time?
Making music, touring and partying in the UK. Thanks for the interview!
