Lady Gaga - “Born This Way: The Remixes” CD Review

I must admit that when I listen to remix albums I'm always a little apprehensive as to whether or not it will be better than the original album, especially when the original album is so good, you have to question why does a remix album need to be made in the first place? Although I love Lady Gaga I must admit that her remix album, "Born This Way: The Remixes" was not exactly my cup of tea. I actually put it down to the fact that I loved this original album so much that nothing could have topped it.
Saying that however, I must admit that there is something for everybody on this album; whether you're into the "club" scene or more into your "indie", or even a fan of the more "rocky" genres, there's more here than you would imagine with artistes such as Two Door Cinema Club and Goldfrapp helping contribute to the overall sound and different elements of the album itself.
Favourites for me on this album is the title track "Born This Way" (The Zedd remix), which is actually the first track giving the iconic song a new angle and a new way of listening to and enjoying one of Lady Gaga's masterpieces. Another favourite of mine on the album is "Marry The Night" which is a Weeknd and Illangelo remix which I can really imagine people getting up and dancing to in various nightclubs around the country.
Another song on the album, which really gave a different perspective of the piece itself, was that Goldfrapp remix of "Judas". This version of the song not only warps and changes Lady Gaga's voice within all reason or distinguishability, it actually makes you sit up and pay attention to what is being described and the imagery that you are picturing - making the piece almost "gospelly" and more religious than originally intended.
Also on this album The Horrors give their own special technique and view on the song "Bloody Mary", giving their own dark and depressing thoughts and feelings on an already sinister song. Whilst talking indie, on this album Two Door Cinema Club also give their slightly eerie take on "Electric Chapel" whilst still managing to make it a club classic and people wanting to get up and appreciate what has been remixed!
So yeah I must admit that I personally wasn't overly thrilled with the different sound on this album. I admit that although I love the different pieces that are released by Lady Gaga that this album on the whole was actually a little bit of a let down. Don't get me wrong there are some good songs on the album but I don't personally believe that this release would be top of my shopping list - if you're thinking about buying it do a little research into the different sounds on the album before putting your hands in your pockets!
